How to make Vintage Art in Photoshop?

You’re still reading this section which means you’re desperately searching for ways to add a touch of vintage to your photo, RIGHT?? Let’s explore how to do it:

Step 1: Start by choosing the photo you’d like to give a vintage touch.

Go to File and select Open to pick your photos.

Step 2: Now, select Image and choose Black and White in the Adjustment options

This will give your image a vintage color scheme.

Step 3: Now it’s time to add vintage color to your image. You can do this by selecting a sepia tone. Here’s how:

Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation

Now, the Colorize box will open in front of your window.

Adjust the Hue tone up to 30 to add a Sepia tone, and adjust the saturation and lightness as needed.

Step 4: Add a Noise

To add noise, you need to click on Filter and select Noise > Add Noise.

Now, choose Gaussian and Monochromatic, and set the noise amount to around 5 to 10%.

Step 5: Add a Vignette effect

A vignette is the dark edges you often find in older photographs or images.

To add a vignette effect, you need to follow these steps:

  • Create a new layer and choose the Elliptical Marquee tool to draw an oval in the centre of the photo.
  • Now click on Select and choose the Inverse option.
  • Now use the Paint Bucket Tool to fill the selection with black.
  • Now adjust the blending mode of this layer to soft light and also reduce the Opacity until the vignette effect starts to appear.

Step 6: Adjust the Curves for Fading

Old photos often look faded, don’t they? So let’s make your photo a little faded.

Click on Image, then Adjustments, and then Curves. Now all you need to do is move the black pointer of the curve upwards to wash out the black color and move the white point downwards to smooth out the brightness.

Step 7: Once the photo looks vintage-styled, it’s time to save it. Now click on the File and select “Save As” to save your photo in formats like JPEG, PNG, or any other.
